There are many lovely things about a British summer.

Strawberries. Bare feet on grass. Dinner at nine. The dangerous confidence that comes from seeing three consecutive suns on the weather app.

Sleeping during a heatwave is not one of them.

By midnight, the duvet is on the floor, the window is open as far as it will go and you're wondering whether moving into the fridge is technically feasible.

Before you do, consider your pyjamas.

It's light. It's breathable. It feels good against bare skin. And unlike certain synthetic fabrics, it doesn't make you regret getting dressed for bed approximately seven minutes after doing so.

There's a reason cotton has been worn in hot countries for centuries.

Summer has a peculiar habit of filling the diary.
